Well, I may bite, but I would like some trusted opinions first. I read an article that Firefox will be the first "real" successful competition to Internet Explorer, succeeding where Netscape did not. So I want to know:

Why is it better than ie?
What are it's limitations?

I do not have problems with ie, but of course I don't know all of the issues.

Could I get opinions of those that have used both?

Thanks in advance.

I understand, edjorge. Sounds great! Sounds like the extensions are great. I will continue to check it out. Right now it is considerably slower for me to navigate through windows. Thanks for the info, GreenReaper.

aaahhhhhgggghhhh.
Now I need help. I was able to copy an addy in my ie window and paste it in my "shortcut link" for an object dock icon. Now, after downloading, uninstallling, reinstalling, and unistalling firefox, it won't work. If I set my homepage to something in my internet tools, and them paste the ie link, it works. But if I just put an addy in the target it does nothing. Anybody have any ideas? So right now the only internet link I can have in my ObjectDock is whatever I set as my homepage in ie. What did the install of Firefox do?

Not using the Windowblinds skin is a deal breaker for me. And Jafo, I just tried the "log-off" and it works here in IE. Saw the ads in all their glory.

Why FF seems to load slower than IE. (quoted from http://www.techsupportalert.com/firefox.htm
"2. FireFox loads slower than Internet Explorer

FireFox may load web pages much faster than IE but the program itself takes longer to load. Much longer, maybe twice as long. That's because major component of Internet Explorer are always running on your PC, they are pre-loaded. That means IE has less work to do when it starts.

Now this FireFox load time inconvenience can be eliminated by always keeping FireFox loaded and simply minimizing it when not in use. In fact it doesn't even need to take up any task bar space as there is a free FireFox extension that allows you to minimize it to the system tray.

It's also true that the slow load time is only a problem when you first start the program while you can enjoy FireFox's speedier page loading throughout your web session. None-the-less it is a deficiency compared to IE and one you should be aware of.

As far FF being skinned, I find that some WBs skin it and some don't. I also like being able to apply my own set of icon themes.
I also like the download mgr.
When I find a page that won't display properly in FF I use the IEview extension found at: http://ieview.mozdev.org/

Thanks tjesterb. Glad to know that my Vaio is not whacked out, even if I may be. I guess I'll try to use both for a while.

Hmmm, that's odd. I use a different WB every day sometimes and have never had that problem. The only WB/FF skinning issue I've ever had was with JWood, a skin by jebland. The menus only drew the left side of the frame. Everything else skinned correctly though.

Werewolf, please check the comments on the JWood windowblind and see if the suggestion I had fixes your problem.
Thanks

I tried. Check the screenshot there to see what's really happening.

werewolf,
I installed FireFox (well, I hadn't screwed up my computer in a long time, so why not). If you load SkinStudio and go to "Fonts for Classic widgets" and delete the setting for System Menu Fonts, that fixes it. I put that setting in so the menus would show the dungeon font.
I guess FireFox just threw up at having a custom font.
Sorry for the problem.

Thank you so much jebland. I don't know how in the world you figured that out, but thank you.

I know its better than IE

Of course that's a matter of opinion...
on Jan 27, 2005
Let's see, yes it is better then IE, Now since it is getting high marks, it will be targeted but the holes will be fixed much much faster then IE. IE is also not the greatest to skin, IE also does not have the functions that firefox has, unless you download a browser that uses IE for the core.

Firefox uses the Netscape core or Mozilla core, whatever you want to say. The diffrence is, Firefox is worked on by the world and Netscape is a bunch of guys in offices. It's like IE, IE is a group of people in a office.

Done for the moment

Let me make a few ponts here:

I do not like tabbed browsing.
I don't care for the many features of Firefox.
In 2 years I have yet to be hacked from using IE.
On my machine IE is faster.
IE also starts faster.
You can only get MS updates using IE.
IE might be harder to skin but I tell Windowblinds NOT to skin IE so problem solved.
IE still holds over half the market.

So there are the reasons I use IE... And yes I have used Firefox and it is installed...
