Where are they
Published on January 9, 2005 By Sleeping Dragon In WinCustomize Talk
Brad put out a feeler question about what new categories we would like to have here at WC. One of the biggest requests was that we get a section for FireFox skins. Apparently Deviant Art is overflowing with them, and I know that Brad took a look at DA and agreed we should have one.

Where are the skins? We have a category that has remained at "0" skins since the day it was opened. Do those skins take longer to make than others, or are people just going to DA out of habit and selection, or is there really not a need?

Just curious, after so many people requested it, why there are not skins. Is anyone working on one?

Isn't that enough? Me, personally, I only want so much skinned. All I want skinned is the icons, the "go" image, the folder icons, the scroll bar and the tabs... maybe the menus too.

I saw some of the skins on Deviant Art and man that is too much!!!

Anyway... With me wanting to do a FireFox skin, I have enough skinning projects on my plate for the next 3 months.

Being unemployeed is fun!

I would... but my grasp of interface is about nill... Why do you think ive never made a windowblinds skin before(though attempted.. many times)

Cant wait to see what people come up with.

Wicked, that looks great. Alot further then I am

First I'm making a file check off list then I'm going to have a description next to each file to explain what they are used for. Once I get things organized, I'll probably post the info I gather up once I have my skin done.

Again, great job on the look so far. Plus what program do you use to get the screenshot to bevel like that? Just curious.

That's just PhotoShop. I feathered the edges and added a drop shadow.

Appearantly a Thunderbird skin is not close enough to being a Firefox skin to make it onto this website (which does not have a Thunderbird section). Oh well, I guess if you're asking for silver you can't very well accept gold now can ya?

Nope, things are slightly diffrent between the two.

You however may be able to port the thunderbird skin to Firefox and just fill in the blanks. By what I was looking, they aren't much diffrent.

Thunderbird is email, Firefox is a browser, thats a pretty big difference that would be the same thing as an Outlook Express skin being submitted to an Internet Explorer theme catagory. Unlike Firefox, Thunderbird doesn't have near the amount of popularity or demand, if it ever does then you might see a catagory for it. *shrug* I'm still curious on how you actually edit themes not to mention install them.

The .jar files are just renamed zips...I think....

I guess I should re-word, I wish it was either more simple to edit or someone would say exactly what you need to do in plain english. Step by step instructions or something, hell maybe "skinning firefox for dummies", I only understand 5 languages; English, HTML, Lingo, ActionScript, and " 1337 ]-[ /-\ >< 0 |2 " so all this other stuff is just jargon for the rest of us

I think that the difficulty of skinning firefox is why it is taking so long for them to appear. I hope that is why. I just noticed the FireFox section myself, for what it's worth. Was there a front page announcement about the added section? Maybe the right people just haven't noticed/been notified that it's here?
on Jan 13, 2005
Yea, there was a annoucement for it.

And for skinning Thunderbird and Firefox. By what I was looking at while searching on how to skin Firefox. They are not much diffrent. I don't use Thunderbird so I can't check to make sure of that.

Well, I finally got it done...have a look.
